Worth the Hype Wednesday – @jcatbeauty Aquasurance Compact Foundation

When you’re as obsessed with foundation as I am, a hyped up, drugstore, powder foundation quickly grabs your attention! After seeing @glamlifeguru and @thataylaa rave about the @jcatbeauty Aquasurance Compact Foundation ($13.99 for .31 ounces at @ultabeauty), I knew I had to check it out – once my shade was finally restocked!

What it claims:

πŸ”˜ Contains a finely milled formula that minimizes the appearance of pores

πŸ”˜ Innovative hydrating powder is non-clogging that absorb and balances excess oil without looking cakey

πŸ”˜ The compact has a water lock system to maintain moisture within the powder which can’t be found in an average compact

πŸ”˜ Blends effortlessly providing medium to full coverage for a flawless finish

πŸ”˜ Sponge is antibacterial that delivers airbrush effect for a flawless finish

My experience:

πŸ‘πŸ» I purchased the shade Ivory and, while it looks too light for me in the pan, it darkens up to be a good shade match on my face.

πŸ”˜ I have attempted to use it three (3) different ways.

πŸ‘ŽπŸ» I could not make it work well as an all over foundation because it looked dry initially and got quite oily throughout the day (watch @zabrena’s review to see how my skin looked at the end of the day). However, I have seen it work on others using application methods I have yet to try, so I will attempt those and update if my opinion changes.

πŸ‘ŽπŸ» I absolutely hated it as an under eye and t-zone setting powder. It settled so badly into my fine lines and did not keep my oily areas mattified long at all.

πŸ‘πŸ» The only way I have found that I like this powder is as a way of adding coverage to a less than full coverage foundation. I use a somewhat densely packed powder brush and apply it on top of freshly applied liquid foundation in my trouble areas. Today, I applied it on top of the @itcosmetics CC Cream on only the left side of my face. It reduced the appearance of my redness and smoothed out my pores beautifully.

My verdict?

Even though, for me, this product doesn’t deliver on all of its claims, I still like it for the reason it does work for me. For foundations I love the wear time on, but sometimes want more coverage for, I can use this!
